Guild Wars 2 says “Thank you!” to Members Who Signed Up for Beta

I just received an email from the Guild Wars 2 team saying “Thank you” for signing up for the beta. I have the video afterwards, but you should definitely “Like” the GW2 fanpage. :) The email is as follows:

In just over 48 hours, 1 million players signed up for a chance to participate in upcoming Guild Wars 2 beta events. Although we wish we could invite everyone who signed up to playtest the beta, we do have a limited number of slots available for each event and not everyone will be able to play. We know you’re very eager for us to send out beta invitations, and we will be sending these confirmations out shortly.

In the meantime, we’ve prepared a little thank you for all those who applied – a brand new video that features never-before-seen in-game footage.

Just head over to the Guild Wars 2 Facebook page and “Like” us to watch the video! Thanks for your support, and we’ll see you in game!

Closed Beta! I signed up! :)

I really hope I get accepted to take part of the Guild Wars 2 closed beta. I won’t be able to share information, but that’s fine! It will be exciting!

The biggest reason I want to be a part of it is because I have gradually lost interest in playing Guild Wars. Main reason is because I have nothing to do anymore. I am almost 30/50 in my Hall of Monuments. I think playing the closed beta will help push me the other 20 points along so I can get cool stuff in the game.

I have waited for more than 5 years for this game to release. I was there when they announced that it was being developed and they were asking for applications via the announcements on the Guild Wars login screen. I’m so excited. I have a Charr plushie to stay by my side as I play the beta (hopefully)!

Even if I don’t get to play the beta, it has renewed me just a bit knowing that it WILL be released in 2012. I have so many local friends who play and have been looking forward to Guild Wars 2. We have all decided what Race and Profession we will all become so we can create the perfect team.

So exciting!

hero-mesmer

Profession: Mesmer

If you’re an avid Guild Wars fan, you already know that on Wednesday they announced the final profession for Guild Wars 2: The Mesmer.

This is what they have to say about the Mesmer:

Mesmers are magical duelists who rely on deception and confusion to keep their opponents in check. Indecision is their greatest ally. Using powerful illusions to distract, they make sure they never go toe to toe with an enemy; they use their powers and tactics to set up an unfair fight. Just when you think you’ve figured out what the mesmer is doing, illusions begin to shatter, clones start to fade away, and you realize you’ve been swinging at empty air all along. It’s hard to keep your eye on the real mesmer.

The mesmer doesn’t have the brute power of the warrior, or the ranged devastation of the ranger. Instead, the mesmer weaves a web of interlaced illusions, conditions, and phantasmal sources of damage. Through skillful play, mesmers combine these pieces into a deadly puzzle to be solved by their foes, while also helping their allies.

Illusions—Mesmers create illusions—mind tricks that manifest themselves physically. Most illusions are directed at a specific target, but anyone can see and attack them. They can only exist for as long as that target is alive and can only be dispelled by attacking the illusion itself. A mesmer can maintain up to three illusions at a time, with the oldest illusion being replaced by the newly created one. There are two types of illusions: clones and phantasms.

  • Clones—Clones are illusions that look just like the caster, have the caster’s name, and have basic behaviors. Clones have low health and tend to do little damage. For example, a mesmer equipped with a sword has two clone-summoning skills: Leap, which launches him forward, leaving a clone at his location, and Illusionary Leap, which summons a clone at his location that then jumps forward.
  • Phantasms—Phantasms are illusions that look like the caster but have their own names and carry special illusionary weapons, which look different and have specific behavior. Phantasms are more powerful, having more health and causing more damage. For example, a staff mesmer can summon an illusionary mage that attacks its target and deals extra damage for each inflicted condition.

Mantras—Mantras are a category of skill that have two phases. The mesmer first activates the mantra, which has a long cast time and replaces that skill slot with an instant-casting skill that the mesmer can then use. Mantras are powerful because many can be charged up before battle and then used in the middle of another spell, without interrupting that spell. For example, Mantra of Pain can charge up into an instant-damage power spike that can be used during a channeled spell, such as the greatsword skill.

Following is a video about the Mesmer.

Enjoy!

Fissure of Woe: Speed Clear Workshop

The Fissure of Woe: Speed Clear, better known as FoWSC, is a very quick and productive way to make a few coin in 30 min or less. Not only can you benefit by gaining Obsidian Shards (which are needed for Obsidian Armor, which is required for your Hall of Monuments) but you can also benefit from gaining sweet goodies from the chest.

The FoWSC isn’t made to do once in a while, it was made to do often. The point of it is to farm the chest at the end, which only appears after you’ve completed all 11 quests. Here are the items you can obtain out of the chest (note that FoWSC is only done in Hard Mode).

These items are always awarded:

  • Lockpick (hard mode only)
  • Obsidian Key
  • Obsidian Shard
  • Onyx Gemstone
  • Passage Scroll to the Fissure of Woe (hard mode only)

Plus one (two in Hard mode) of the following:

  • A random inscribable rare item.
  • A Diamond, Obsidian Shard, Onyx Gemstone, Ruby or Sapphire.
  • Passage Scroll to the Fissure of Woe

Two rare items that have a chance of dropping out of this chest are Obsidian Edges (Obi/Obby Edge) and Voltaic Spears (VS) which go for quite a bit of ecto if you get a good requirement number (req. 9/10).

If you are interested in learning how to complete this elite area in under 30 minutes, please join us on November 20th, 2011, for a special workshop put on by the Wolfe’s Den [Wolf] guild. The cost is 2 platinum per person. This will cover the cost of consumable sets and other goodies we will be giving out during this event. We will also have elite tomes for cheaper than regular rates for paying attendees to help you get started with your build.

REMEMBER: If you plan to join us, we will be introducing you to only 5 of the 8 roles. If you wish to learn how to be one of the perma-assassins, please contact us and we will offer up advice and help for those positions.

Roles we plan to teach (and they’re primary profession):

  • VoS (Vow of Strength, Dervish)
  • 100b (Hundred Blades, Warrior)
  • MoP (Mark of Pain, Necro)
  • EoE (Edge of Extinction, Ranger)
  • UA (Unyielding Aura, Monk)

This is called the “main team” as they clear the more difficult areas. For more information or to prepare your build, please see the FoWSC – Manly Spike page.

UPDATE: The clear went very well! If you would like me to teach you, or a group of you, how to clear please shoot me an email!
